PWPSD PAT and Diploma Exam Preparation

Please make sure you try a couple accounts (especially the accommodation ones) on site shortly after you receive the codes from IT staff. The spreadsheet is always the same one, so once it is shared with you, you have it at all times.

Questions asked by IT:

Some questions IT will need answered to have everything ready:

  • Will you be using Chromebooks for the written ELA 6, 9 Part A tests?

    • If so, what printers will students be printing to?

  • For each exam:

    • How many will be using regular accounts?

    • How many students will be using the MP3 accommodations for each of the PATs?

Part B

For part B, This is a pretty big question mark right now. the new vretta( https://abed.vretta.com) system is unclear to us. For the time being we are sticking with paper for the multiple choice.

Part A and Accommodations (Mostly MP3s) for both Parts A & B

IT will send the link to the Google sheet containing your site accounts. In the Google Sheets file, make sure you are in the PAT sheet and not the Diploma sheet (if there is one).

There are two account types, the standard accounts like ‘hbspat005@s.pwpsd.ca’ and the accommodation accounts like ‘hbspatacc005@s.pwpsd.ca’. The latter allows text to speech, speech to text, and will have the relevant MP3 files accessible in the ‘Shared with me’ section of Google Drive. These MP3s can be played using the blue ‘Files’ app, and the spreadsheet containing all the usernames and passwords has notes indicating which acc accounts will have which MP3s. If it just has a Grade listed with no detail on the specific test, it means all the accounts with the Grade # will get the proper MP3s on each test day.

For students to log onto the accounts, they must completely log out of their own account and then click ‘Add Person’. They then click the ‘Enter Google account info' at the bottom right.

After entering the username, the student might receive a Captcha to prove they are not a bot. They can just click the button/link which says "Try another way" in order to continue.  It will look similar but not exactly like this:

Once logged in and a Chrome browser window open, they will need to create a separate document for each exam question. To do this, they have to click on ‘Links for exams’ in the top bookmarks bar, then pick ‘Exam Template’. When asked, they will ‘Make a copy’. To make their second document, they open a new tab, click ‘Links for exams' on the top bookmarks bar again and click ‘Make a copy’ again. Repeat a third time if there is a third question.

Once in the documents, they should put the assignment number in the header and enter their index number in the footer. The index number is the one on their sticker which is put on the exam booklet. Their name cannot be anywhere on the document when it prints out, so they should not type it anywhere.

At the very top of the window beside the document name and star there should be a cloud with a checkmark in it. This icon is important as it indicates whether or not the document changes have been saved to Drive.

When it comes time to print, the student can click the Print button (or File → Print). In order to connect to the printer, they will have to pick ‘See more…' then choose the appropriate printer.

Diploma Information

Questions asked by IT:

How many students are writing each (ENG 30-1, 30-2 / SS 30-1, 30-2)?
How many students require tech accommodations for each (ENG 30-1, ENG 30-2, SS 30-1, SS 30-2, Others)?
What printers will students be printing to?

Information:

In the sheet named ‘Diploma’ you will see a list of usernames and passwords. Each student must receive their own unique username and password, and do not use the same username between different exams. For example, if ‘pwae005@s.pwpsd.ca’ is used for ENG 30-2, it cannot then be used again for SS 30-1. Ignore the other items and do not click on the ‘Generate Passwords' or 'Wipe’ buttons.

If no printers show up, back out of the print dialog then refresh the page containing the document and try to print again. If after a couple tries there are still no printers listed, contact IT. This specific issue happened for the first time during PATs, but we are hoping it has cleared up.
