Google Meet Microphone Issues

There are a number of ways microphones have been messing up or muting. Most of them are quick fixes, once you know where to look. Following is a list of the most common fixes:

Fix 1:

  • If using a USB microphone, unplug the USB cable from the computer then plug it back in. Sometimes this alone will fix the issue.

Fix 2:

  • Go to the Meet settings (three dots at the lower right, then settings):

  • Fix 2 - Fig 1

  • In the Audio settings, make sure the correct device is set as the microphone

Fix 3:

  • Windows itself may have muted the microphone

  • Open the Start menu and type: control panel

  • Open the Control Panel “app”, then open “Sound”

  • Double click on the device that is your microphone. This varies based on your setup, but generally should be the one with the green checkmark

  • Click on the Levels tab. There will be a volume bar, and a mute button. If the mute button icon has a red circle with a line through it, this means the microphone has been muted at a system level.

  • Click the mute button to un-mute the microphone
